Gaps in your smile can dampen your confidence and make everyday things like chewing and talking feel like a mammoth task. Single dental implants replace gaps in your teeth by first placing a durable titanium root that integrates with your jawbone. A porcelain crown is then placed over the implant.
Communicate Clearly
Restore your ability to communicate clearly with your friends, family, and colleagues.
Chewing Freedom
Implants sit solidly within the jawbone, so you will never experience any movement when you eat your favourite foods (even those with chewy or harder textures).
Improved Oral Health
Implants provide vital preservation for the jawbone, which, in turn, supports the lifetime of your natural teeth. Jawbone stability also prevents aesthetic changes that can occur when the jawbone is unstimulated due to gaps in your smile.
Implants Look and Feel Natural
Implants (as opposed to bridges and dentures) are fixed within the gum, with the bone growing around the implant during the healing phase. Once the crown is screwed in over the top, they look fully natural, and your teeth will bite together correctly.
Consultation
If you are new to the practice, a full dental examination will need to be completed, including a set of X-rays. The condition of your soft tissues (gums and tongue) will also be examined.
Once your dentist has explained the implant process and you are happy to proceed, digital scans, photographs and CBCT scans are taken.
Placement of the Dental Implant
The titanium implant is surgically placed under local anaesthetic. Your body’s healing mechanisms are triggered once the implant is in your jaw.
Crown Fitting
After the jaw has healed (3-6 months), a crown can be affixed over the top of your implant.
The duration of the healing period depends on a variety of factors. Genetics and lifestyle impact the healing process, with smoking being one of the main inhibitors to a successful healing period.
You will need to attend for suture removal after 1 week and then not again until healed- usually 8 weeks minimum.
Implants are made from strong, biocompatible titanium. This high-quality material has high success rates thanks to its high corrosion resistance and low allergenic properties. Care for your implants by:
In patients who observe the above maintenance advice, implants have the potential to last for 20+ years.
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the implant site, so you will experience minimal discomfort during the surgery.
To enhance your comfort even further, we can offer IV conscious sedation to relax both body and mind. IV sedation is particularly effective for patients who are nervous prior to their surgery.
