Sedation
Helping you keep calm and relaxed before treatment.
If you are anxious about your procedure with us, we can provide intravenous (IV) sedation to help you feel calm and collected in both body and mind. IV sedation involves the use of Midazolam, used to ease major anxiety in patients of all ages.
Objectives of Sedation
- To relax the nerves of anxious patients before a given procedure.
- To improve your confidence for future procedures.
- To help you undergo the dental treatment you require.
What Is IV Sedation?
This method of sedation is conscious and achieves complete relaxation in patients. It is administered using a cannula on the back of the hand and takes effect within minutes.
Whilst under sedation, you are monitored closely by a sedation dentist with in-depth knowledge of studying patients’ vitals, blood pressure, and reactions to the sedative.
Why Our Patients Choose IV Sedation
Improve Your Confidence
Once you have had one procedure under sedation, you are likely to have built up more confidence the next time you need to visit for a procedure.
No Gag Reflex
For patients who have a strong gag reflex, IV sedation can relax this. Not only does this help patients relax throughout their procedure, but your dentist can also work much more efficiently as they will not need to.
Relaxation For Lengthy Procedures
IV sedation can help you disassociate from the procedure, helping you to relax when a procedure is lengthy.
No Unpleasant After-effects
You may feel a little tired after your procedure, but there is very little lethargy associated with the Midazolam IV sedative wearing off.
FAQs
Who can benefit from IV sedation?
Some of the reasons patients choose to have IV sedation include:
- To be oblivious to sounds, such as dental drills and administering local anaesthetic.
- They have had a negative experience at the dentist in the past and wish to overwrite this with a positive one.
- They would like the time to pass quickly whilst they are in the dentist’s chair.
- They would like to undergo a specific treatment but need a bit of extra confidence to do so.
Do all dentists offer IV sedation?
IV sedation is currently offered by a minority of private dental practices in the UK. This is extremely valuable to our patients, acting as a gateway to treatment they may not have otherwise chosen to have.
Why choose Creffield Lodge Dental Practice?
Rushing has never been our style. We like to take plenty of time to sit down with you and explain everything you want to know about a given procedure, including IV sedation.
If you are a nervous patient, we first ask you a few questions about where your dental phobia might have originated. This is so we can identify the most suitable way to support you.
It might be that you simply need a chat with one of our compassionate dentists, as opposed to sedation, which can often be the case. However, if you’re still feeling like your nerves are a barrier to getting treatment, we can, of course, proceed with IV sedation.
